Just Be and Bloom Bā Guà | Feng Shui special edition

This lantern was inspired by a dear friend who offers tea ceremonies and Tai Chi. It is based on the eight trigrams, or Bā Guà.

It took over 5 months from an initial concept to the final lamp design. It began with a much more complex design. Inspiration from the very first lantern I designed and made, which incorporated inset frames and a handle, led me down a new path of discovery, completely transforming the final design of this lantern. Along side this process, I researched the I Ching and was deeply taken in and fascinated by everything I read, to say the least... be sure to watch this video as a primer and to visit this website.

The final design turned out better than I could have imagined. It is incredibly involved and time consuming to make one of these lanterns, requiring layers and layers of elements to come together and align perfectly. If one thing is off it simply won't go together.

The lid holds a beautiful Yin Yang symbol that I was determined to make work as I envisioned... it looks magical when illuminated with an unbroken rim of light. This lantern includes my custom LED candle flame to bring everything to life.

The lantern is covered in a very special washi paper called Unryu, which literally means cloud dragon. The washi is crafted and produced by the Fujimori family in Tokushima, Japan

The finished lantern decorated with deeply meaningful symbols, becomes such a beautiful living centre piece for that special space.

Subtle changes often take less time. I've outlined all the options below in more detail.

The existing core structure needs to remain unchanged. Extensive development and time has gone into the structural design, this cannot be altered. That being said, as you will see, there are options available for you to arrive at a bespoke piece that you will love...

In the spirit of this collection, the lid and base can be painted at an extra cost. A deep red or black may be fitting.

Further, we can discuss anything else you may wish to customize including using a completely different artwork made up of 8 panels, and a different lid.

Once we have discussed everything and you are happy with the estimate, you can place an order using the “Custom” option above.

Phase 1: Upon receiving your order and depending upon the complexity of the project, I will move forward with a rough mockup of your custom piece. Most often though, a mockup is not necessary.

Phase 2: You will have the opportunity to review the customizations we discussed, along with any mockup images, refine further if necessary and then sign-off.

Phase 3: You will receive an invoice for the balance (customizations only). I will then begin on your lantern shortly afterwards. You will receive updates along the way until your one-of-a-kind lantern, lamp or accent piece is ready to be shipped, or delivered if local.
