Terms and conditions of service:

Product Information

All lanterns and lamps (and any other products) are hand made, that means each will have it’s own nuances - the beauty of hand made.

Every effort has been made to show a true likeness of colour and brightness of the LED bulb. Modern day cameras are far from capturing what the eye is capable of, so reproducing illuminated lanterns and lamps is a huge challenge and results vary.

Wood has it’s own character, no piece is the same. When it comes to commercial high grade plywoods, such as Russian Birch, used on one collection, it’s no different.

I go the extra mile as part of working with you and more often then not, you will see your product via a video service like Zoom, or have multiple current photos of your item, before it ships. This is to ensure you are 100% happy.

Know I’ve done my best with the tools I have available. With all these things to overcome there will be variations, both in physical form and in photos.

Pricing

Prices are shown in Canadian dollars and do not include any taxes. Taxes are added in accordance of your location, within Canada. The cost of shipping is a separate cost.

Payment and purchasing products

I do not currently take payment directly through my website, this may change in time. I have outlined the order process at the top of the Shop page, please be sure you have read this.

Order times & delivery

If you have completed an order, you should hear from me within 1-2 business days. If you do not, please reach out to me.

Since every lantern and lamp I offer is made to order and handmade, order times can vary significantly. Workload and other factors, including the reliability of supply chains, can impact even the best laid plans.

I am 100% transparent with you as your lantern or lamp takes form. I do my best to keep updates flowing. This will keep you in the loop and current of any delays and things of the sorts, no matter what estimated completion time may have been set. It’s a relationship where there are no crystal balls, so understanding is a necessary part of keeping it healthy.

Shipping and customs/taxes

Shipping is a challenge, in more ways than one. We will discuss the best options at the time of your order. In Canada, I typically use Canada Post, since it’s the cheapest. If you are on Vancouver Island and close to the Comox Valley, I’ll deliver in person.

Many of my designs are extremely fragile. This requires larger than normal boxes and unfortunately shipping can work out notably more than expected. I can only do so much and what I pay is what you are charged.

I only ship with additional shipping insurance coverage. It gives us both an opportunity to recover from the unthinkable. Damage or loss is something neither of us have control of. I go through great expense with my packaging to safeguard the contents, but it can only handle so much abuse.

For customers outside Canada - you are responsible for all customs and import taxes. I’m also not responsible for delays due to customs or other factors. We’re all in the hands of other businesses when it comes to things like this.

Repairs & Warranty

Accidents happen, I have you covered! Some of my lanterns and lamps are extremely fragile, paper can only withstand so much force. Where ever possible, I’ve made the ability to do repair work as simple as possible for you to take care of with my guidance. Keep your shipping boxes should you not feel comfortable doing the repairs with me. I only charge for materials once I receive the repair.

Should the repair require be more than something “simple”, we can discuss what’s possible and any associated costs.

I make use of archival grade tapes to secure the paper used to the frames. I also make use of Japanese wheat starch paste, Jin Shofu, when needed.

Should something fail on your lantern, we will work though it together. It’s not a rocket ship, it’s simple in operation and I build these to be 100% serviceable as I want them to last beyond a lifetime.

When it comes to warranty, I offer a 1year limited warranty on electrical components (12V PSU, 12V LED bulb, dimmer, LED candle flame module) against manufacture or mechanical defect from the date of delivery. The warranty will not apply to defects that are a result of accidental damage, normal wear and tear or failure to comply to provided technical instructions or written recommendations. Factors like large swings in humidity can cause premature failure of wooden frames and the Japanese papers used. Direct sunlight UV is damaging to my lanterns and lamps, as it would be to most anything along these lines.

Under no circumstances we will be held liable for special, incidental or consequential damages including, but not limited to, damage or loss of other property or equipment, loss of profits or revenue, costs of capital, or business interruption.

Returns & Cancellations

Returns: Each item I sell is made to order. I go the extra mile as part of working with you - you will see your lantern or lamp via a video service like Zoom, or see a number of pictures during the build process, before it ships. This is to ensure you are 100% happy at each phase. In light of this added service, I do not accept returns. I trust this seems fair and reasonable.

If you receive your unit and have a change of heart about the artwork you’ve selected, I would be more than happy to discuss this with you. The best option would be to return the unit to me so I can make the changes, so be sure to keep those valuable shipping boxes. The costs associated with this would vary depending on the artwork cost and paper used, but only material costs would apply. You would however be responsible for all shipping costs.

Cancellations: There will be more than adequate opportunity for you to be 100% sure of your purchase, before you submit payment. Due to the very nature of how I work with you, impulse buying is not possible, which has an upside in this situation. I will often go so far as mocking something up for you, where possible, before any money is exchanged, in good faith. The extensive galleries of pictures I have made available will further help you make a solid informed decision. As a result of these added opportunities for you to be 100% happy and certain of your order, I do not accept cancellations once payment has been received. I hope this seems fair and reasonable.

I understand and know this is an organic process. In this spirit, know you still have an opportunity to modify your order, up to 48hrs after you have submitted payment.
