Paper: Traditional Japanese Washi (not suitable for printed artwork)

  • Papers available here represent 1400 years of craftsmanship and refinement of technique. You will find economical, blended-fibre papers made by machine (special machines that keep the hand made look) to exquisite pure fibre kozo, gampi and mitsumata papers prepared entirely by hand.

Japanese washi paper is remarkable. No other paper modifies light in quite the same way, each unique to the paper choice.

The entire paper making process is simply beautiful. A quick YouTube search of this process will certainly give you an insight into this, if you are new to these kinds of papers.

While these papers are strong for paper, but they are still fragile and great care must be taken in handling the lantern or lamp and keeping it out of harms way… just part of owning something delicately beautiful.

  • These papers are well suited for the entire lantern or lamp canvas. Or, use these papers on those sides that do not use one of the other silk screened or custom papers.

There is a lot to weigh up when choosing a paper. While I have shown a number here, I have found it possible to short-list this down to about 3 to cover most tastes.

You will see these papers already being used on the collections in the “Shop”. I’ve selected the papers that work best already, but you still have the option to choose anything else from here.

Right click and save the slideshow image to your desktop. It will have a number, this number is what you can provide me in order to simplify the selection process… if you want something other than those I’ve already shown in the “Shop”.

  • CAD$5-$20 + shipping for custom paper requests.

Papers that are in stock typically work out to about $1.50/face, on the low end.
